Benje
Soca/Reggae Artist, Bahamas
The love for music is quite an unexplainable feeling. The adrenaline rush of getting into a studio to pen a song, or on a laptop to create a beat is not only unmistakable, but it is addictive. Though this isn’t a new story or scenario for a musical artist, it’s the daily life of Benjamin Alexander from the beautiful 238 square mile island named St. Lucia.
The world knows him as Benje.
Born on July 23rd 1984 in the community of Soufriere – home of the World-Renowned Twin Volcanic Peaks named The Pitons (a World Heritage Site), Benje was exposed to music at a very young age whilst his father played music in the house he grew up in, practically every day. Whilst attending school in The Bahamas, he was exposed to marching bands in the 7th grade and developed a fascination with the drum set – which became his first instrument he ever played. And the rest, as they say, is history.
With the legendary musical influences in the persons of Bob Marley and Super Cat, as well as the new age Soca Star influences such as Machel Montano and Bunji Garlin, Benje has carved a niche for himself in the music scene, creating his own sound, forging his own style and continues to take the world by storm. Soca and Reggae are his preferred genres and that is where he feels most at ‘home’ musically.
He became part of the Heritage Band as their drummer and they became one of the most popular bands in the town of Soufriere. After some time the band was renamed The Matrix Band and this gave him a platform to release the most unforgettable tracks and has brought him in a position to work with some of the most skilled and talented producers in the Caribbean; which in turn helped him to develop into a producer himself. (Benje was building beats from the age of seventeen and produced the ‘Stop The Violence Track’ for The Matrix Band).
He has produced for the Visage Band out of The Bahamas and have done work with Groovy Soca Monarch Winner Arthur from St. Lucia. He has worked with Mad Men (Trinidad), the SNL Family (Trinidad), Freddy ‘Got Stykz’ Seymour (The Bahamas), Francis ‘Leebo’ De Lima (St. Lucia) and Yohann ‘Yogi Da Producer’ Deterville (St. Lucia/Canada). His multiple show appearances and performances include: Labour Day New York, Miami Carnival, Exuma, Freeport, Inagua Salty Fest, Fox Hill Day and many more…
The message of love and togetherness –the pure and unadulterated love of music is being communicated through every single track that Benje creates and participates in. On May 25th 2017, He released his first album #MADD in The Bahamas and it has been well received. This St. Lucian Born Powerhouse intends on blowing the lid worldwide on Soca Music and he is determined that absolutely nothing will stop his flow.
His latest releases are available for the listening pleasure of his fans on his YouTube Channel: Benje The Artist and will also be available on sale.

Benje has started 2018 with a bang! He is set to release his latest Bahamas Masqueraders Theme song for Bahamas Carnival 2018. The festival now in its fourth year, has been nothing short of epic and on the heels of their Band of the Year win in 2017, The Bahamas Masqueraders would of course enlist Benje to create their theme song for this year’s Carnival Season.
The track named ‘Jewel of Desire’, which is also the band’s portrayal theme this year, was written and produced by Benjamin ‘Benje’ Alexander himself.
With background vocals by Denice Millien, it was recorded in Trinidad and Tobago at Millbeatz Entertainment; mixed and mastered by David Millien of Millbeatz Entertainment. A true reveller chant for any member of the Bahamas Masqueraders and a nice groove for any Carnival lover – ‘Jewel of Desire’ is sure to keep you pumping;
keeping you in the Carnival vibe whether your country’s carnival is already done or if it is soon to come.
